Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving’s already busy All-Star weekend became even busier Thursday night.
That’s when Irving was selected to participate in the three-point shooting contest. Irving will also participate in the Rising Stars challenge, along with Cavs teammates Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller. He will also be participating in the actual All-Star Game.
In 38 games this season, Irving is averaging 23.9 points on 47-percent shooting. He is shooting 43 percent on three-pointers, ranking him 10th in the NBA and second among point guards. Since entering the NBA last season, Irving is shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks seventh in the league in that time frame (minimum 150 three-pointers made). He has made five or more threes three times this season, including a 5-5 performance in Wednesday’s 122-95 win over Charlotte.
The Foot Locker Three-Point Contest will take place during All-Star Saturday night Feb. 16 in Houston. The other participants are New Orleans’s Ryan Anderson, San Antonio’s Matt Bonner, Golden State’s Stephen Curry, Indiana’s Paul George and New York’s Steve Novak.
