Flashes making grades; Freeman to Purdue

By Zac

Kent State’s football team shined on the field this fall — and in the classroom, too.

The school announced Friday that 45 football players carried a 3.0 or better GPA during the fall semester, the most since the school starting keeping records of such things in 1982. Eighteen players made the dean’s list, signaling a GPA of 3.4 or better.

The No. 25 Golden Flashes, 11-2 after losing the MAC Championship Game in double overtime, play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl on Jan. 6, Kent State’s first bowl game in 40 years.

On Thursday night, FOXSportsOhio.com learned that Kent State linebackers coach Marcus Freeman, a former Ohio State linebacker, has accepted a position with former Kent State coach Darrell Hazell at Purdue. Hazell accepted the Purdue job earlier this month but will coach Kent State in the bowl game.
