I’ve been following the past week of collective bargaining talks with a bit of emotional distance – largely because I don’t want to get lost in the weeds of the proposals going back and forth but also because this lockout has just gone on for too long. I’ve got my opinions about the different positions of the National Hockey League owners and players, but does that really matter at this point? Like so many Columbus Blue Jacket fans, I just want to see NHL hockey take the ice. Time is a-wastin’. We’re losing too many games, and that’s no good.
So when the two parties meet, don’t dismiss each other’s proposals in 10 minutes, and keep coming back – day after day – without running to the media at every turn…well, that’s when it seems like the reindeer games are over and the negotiating is actually happening. From this vantage point, it looks like we really got four solid days of negotiating this week.
Wait, what’s this? Oh dear.
