The National Hockey League announced today that all 2012-13 league regular season games have been cancelled through October 24, 2012. That makes a total of 82 games cancelled. In their own announcement, the Columbus Blue Jackets announced that their share of the cancelled games is five:
- October 13 at Chicago
- October 16 at Minnesota
- October 18 at Toronto
- October 19 vs. Vancouver
- October 23 vs. Detroit
As a fan and a supporter of the Columbus Blue Jackets – not to mention the incredibly positive effect that the team and NHL hockey has on the City of Columbus, Franklin County and Central Ohio – I feel so sad for the team employees, arena workers, Arena District business employees and Blue Jackets ticket holders. The FOX Sports Ohio writer in me also can’t help but note that there are some dedicated broadcast professionals who are also on the sidelines.
We can only hope that a new collective bargaining agreement is reached soon, making these are the only games to get cancelled. For if there are more, some terrific people’s lives will be seriously affected for the worse.
