A few weekend predictions involving football teams of note.
I was asleep at the wheel Thursday afternoon, apparently, so I did not pick the Cincinnati-Pitt game. I would have picked the Bearcats, say, 34-10.
Man, I’m good.
Here are the rest…
Philadelphia Eagles (-9) at Cleveland Browns
A talent mismatch, and a really bad situation for Brandon Weeden if the Browns get in must-pass situations. A game for 35-40 minutes, a runaway late.
Eagles 27, Browns 13
Monday: Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (-6)
An early-measuring stick game for both teams, more for the Bengals. The Ravens will have extra emotion, one of the league’s best crowds and their new no-huddle offense rolling. The Bengals will win their share, but not this one.
Ravens 31, Bengals 20
Central Florida at Ohio State (-19)
A much bigger challenge for the Buckeyes than Miami University was able to provide last week. The Knights are athletic and experienced. The bad news is they’re traditionally horrible on the road, and the whole “juice” thing Urban Meyer has brought will carry the Buckeyes at least one more week. It will be a game into the fourth.
Ohio State 27, UCF 13
Kent State at Kentucky (-7)
The Flashes got some spotlight last week…for a player picking up a muffed punt and running almost 60 yards the wrong way. Kentucky has a coach on the hot seat and a bunch of freshmen in the lineup. The seat gets hotter.
Kent State 23, Kentucky 20
Toledo at Wyoming (-3.5)
The Rockets gave one away at Arizona last week. The talent is there to get things turned around this week and give Matt Campbell his first regular-season win.
Toledo 33, Wyoming 30
LAST WEEK: 4-1 straight up, 4-1 ATS
SEASON TOTAL: 4-1 straight up, 4-1 ATS
